There is an epidemic of stupidity, a mathless inability to quantify and correlate information and I as a cartoon and a caricature do object strenuously and often.

THE GOOD DOCTOR SAID "THE OPIOID CRISIS IS AFFECTING ALL OF OUR LONGEVITY" . CERTAINLY STATISTICALLY THE AVERAGE OR MEDIAN LIFE EXPECTANCY WILL DIMINISH AS NUMEROUS RESIDENTS DIE VERY YOUNG FROM DRUG OVERDOSES. THAT AFFECTS THE USERS OF DANGEROUS DRUGS LIFE EXPECTANCY  AND UNTIMELY DEATH. WAR AND WINGSUITS WILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECT ON INDIVIDUAL AND MEDIAN LIFE EXPECTANCY.

REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY PERSONS DIE YOUNG, FOR THE OTHER PERSONS IN A SOCIETY LIFE EXPECTANCY IS NOT AFFECTED. 

TAKE A EXAMPLE OF ONE HUNDRED PEOPLE WHO LIVE TO EIGHTY YEARS OLD IN A SHOE, DUE TO NATURAL CAUSES THERE IS EARLY DEATH FOR ONE OR TWO.

100 X 80 = 8000 YEARS* 100 X 80 -(2 X 50 YEARS EARLY DEATH DEAD AT 30)  = 8000- 100 =  7900 YEARS. AVERAGE LIFE EXPECTANCY  IS TOTAL NUMBER OF YEARS LIVED DIVIDED BY THE TOTAL POPULATION BORN IN THE SHOE 7900 DIVIDED BY 100 EQUALS 79 YEARS

THE LIVES OF THE REMAINING POPULATION AND THE LENGTH THEREOF WILL NOT BE AFFECTED IN THE SLIGHTEST AVERAGE LIFE EXPECTANCY WILL DIMINISH BUT THE INDIVIDUAL LIFE LENGTH WILL NOT CHANGE.

For each death at an average age of death for male drug addicts deduct 44 years from life length.

In the USA about one eighth of people die from drug overdoses. Statistically for our hundred people who live in a Shoe  that would seem to be over a FIVE YEAR DROP IN LIFE EXPECTANCY but this is not so, all of the other people who live there will do their 80 or 84 years or more or less depending on their overall health, genes and  good luck.

100 persons x 80 years - ( 12.5 persons x - 44 years or - 550 years) = 7450 years total of life lengths. 

Total life length is still divided by the 100 individuals to fall to 74.5 years but the life expectancy of  persons who do not consume dangerous drugs is unaffected and perhaps more will be learned about drug induced death and the life expectancy of non users might increase due to research.

Bear in mind that the "average life expectancy statistic  factors in all possible reasons for early death. The drug overdose and drug and alcohol and tobacco and nutritional and other source caused degeneration will affect the Average Life Expectancy in a wide ranging manner as well.

DESPITE ALL OF THIS THERE IS ONE LESSON TO LEARN: AVERAGE LIFE EXPECTANCY IN THE SHOE OR ALL OVER THE WORLD WILL DECLINE DUE TO THE  UNTIMELY DEATH OF THE USERS OF DANGEROUS DRUGS BUT IF YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THE USERS YOU WILL NOT DIE ANY SOONER.
